Meeting Minutes
Summary of our monthly meetings
Date: May 19th, 2010
Type: Minersville Alumni Meeting
Location: Cafeteria
Presiding Officer: Colleen Slovick

A Minersville Alumni meeting was held in the M.H.S. cafeteria on Wednesday evening, May 19, 2010.  The meeting was called to order by President Colleen Slovick at 7:00 p.m.

Minutes from the January 20, 2010 meeting were read by Secretary Bernadette Davenport.  A motion to accept the minutes was made by Jim Yacobacci and seconded by Mary Nell Starner.  All were in favor.

The treasury report was given by Vice President Ellen Franko.  A $12.00 deposit waqs made from a new member which brings a total of $817.69 in the regular account.  The balance in the "Stadium Entrance Project" account is $3,850.00 from donations, plus $786.40 from other projects not related to donations.  A motion to accept the treasurer's report was made by Bernadette Davenport and seconded by Mary Nell Starner.

Jim Yacobacci asked the members to think of ways to double the $786.40 and to make suggestions at the next meeting.  Ellen Franko suggested that we put the $3,850.00 toward a certificate of deposit so that this money could at least earn some interest on the special project monies.  A motion to accept this idea was made by Ellen Franko and seconded by Marion Twigg.  All were in favor.

Under new business- Specifications were discussed for the alumni award to be given to a graduating senior.  Completed applications should be handed in to the guidance office.  Guidance will narrow the applications down to the top three applicants and the Alumni Association will choose the winner on Wednesday, June 2, at 3:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

Other business- Colleen Slovick suggested that the association have a "Back to School" picnic on school grounds on August 29, 2010. The menu would include hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and snacks.  The cost would be $5.00 and the picnic would run from 2-5 p.m.  Jim suggested that alumni who attend the picnic and are not yet members of the association have free membership for the remainder of 2010 by just paying the $5.00 fee for the picnic.  All attending members thought this to be a good idea.  The picnic will be discussed further at the next meeting.

Another item under other business was Jim's suggestion to raise more money for the Stadium Entrance Project.  Jim offered to go in the dunking booth at the Rescue block party to be held on July 9, 10, and 11th.  Jerry Sitkus will ask John Vuksta if we could use the Lions Association's dunking machine.  He will also ask someone at the Rescue if we could have this fundraiser at their block party.  All were in favor of having Jim in the dunking booth.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jerry Sitkus and seconded by Colleen Slovick.  All were in favor.

The next Minersville Alumni meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 2, at 3:00 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.
