A Minersville Alumni meeting was held in the high school cafeteria on Wednesday evening, August 17, 2011. The meeting was called to order by President Colleen Slovick at 7:00p.m.

Minutes from the May 18, 2011 meeting were read by Secretary Bernadette Davenport. A motion to accept the minutes was made by Matt Kroznuski and seconded by Scott Hranchok. All were in favor.

Treasurer Ellen Franko reported that the balance in the general account is $1,210.45. The balance in the project account is $4,798.66 and the CD is at $4,032.10. The total balance for the project account is $8,830.76. A motion to accept the treasurer’s minutes was made by Jerry Sitkus and seconded by Mary Nell Starner. All were in favor.

Old Business
The Elvis Show was a great success. Treasurer Ellen Franko reported that close to five hundred dollars was made at the show between the collection at the door, the 50-50, sales of alumni shirts and miners helmets, and new membership fees. Shirley Clemko also gave a donation of $50.00 in memory of her late husband Jack Clemko. A complimentary membership to the association was given to T.J. Fitzpatrick (Elvis).

In other business, Ellen Franko read a thank you card sent to the association from Amanda Ryan who was the recipient of the $100.00 Minersville Alumni Award given to a graduating senior.

New Business
Spirit Day- Minersville Spirit Day will be held on Sept. 11, 2011 and the alumni association will again have a table set up to promote the association and raise money for the new stadium entrance project. Marian Twigg acquired a spinning wheel which we will use at Spirit Day-50 cents a spin and everyone is a winner. Children’s prizes will be awarded for each spin with #1 being the top prize and numbers 2, 3, 4, and 5 being smaller prizes. Marian has already bought some prizes such as sunglasses, lollipops, and backpack tags. Other prizes will be purchased from the Oriental Trading magazine. The association will also be taking orders for alumni shirts and will be selling miners’ helmets. Membership forms will also be available to those who are interested in joining the alumni association.

In other business, the association decided to buy a quarter page ad for $30.00 to be placed in the football program.. Mary Nell Starner will make up the ad for the program. The association also decided that we will sell chances to win a Lottery/Gift Certificate Basket at the Minersville home football games. Matt Kroznuski and Jerry Sitkus volunteered to canvas businesses to make donations for the basket. The chances are $2.00 a chance or three chances for $5.00.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jerry Sitkus and seconded by Marian Twigg. All were in favor.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in the high school cafeteria.
