Stadium Entrance Project Donors Needed
Donations of any amount will be graciously accepted
August 24, 2009
Dear Business Owner, Organization or Private Person:
The Minersville Area Alumni Association is an organization that was started approximately two years ago and was founded to promote social events for alumni and fundraising activities for projects for the Minersville Area School District.  Our present “Big” project is to raise money for construction of a new entrance to Veteran’s Stadium – the Home of the Minersville Area Battlin’ Miners.
The new entrance would be a two-column brick structure that would house the two ticket booths. On top of each booth would be a four-foot concrete miner statue with lantern. (View photo of the exact miner statue). These will be the same type of statues that were donated by the Minersville Area Class of 2009 that are located at the entrance to the district office and junior-senior high school. The estimated cost for the purchase of two new statues from Patterson Block Company with lanterns is app. $400.00. The lanterns will be illuminated for evening events at the stadium and will light the entrance as well as the lights inside the ticket booths. On the outside (West side) of the South side column will be a new dedication sign to the heroic dead who gave their lives in defense of our country that matches the one presently located on the South side of the fence located on North Fifth Street across from the elementary center.  (View photo of the dedication text) On the outside (West side) of the North column will be either an image of a “Battlin’ Miner Helmet or the image of a Battlin’ Miner Football Player. On the east side of one of the columns (facing the inside of the stadium) will have a plaque in memory of Billy Ulmer. The plaque will read:
OUR OWN
BILLY ULMER
IT WAS HIS LAST GAME
AND HIS GREATEST GAME.
HE GAVE EVERYTHING HE HAD
AND LOST EVERYTHING.
MAY GOD PRESERVE HIS MEMORY
WITH US FOREVER, SO THAT FUTURE
YOUTH MAY KNOW HIS GREATNESS.

BILLY ULMER, AN EXCEPTIONALLY
TALENTED ATHLETE, DIED IN THE
MINERSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL STADIUM
AS A RESULT OF AN INJURY SUSTAINED
DURING A FOOTBALL CONTEST ON
OCTOBER 22, 1943
The top of the entrance will have an archway and sign adjoining the two columns that read: VETERANS MEMORIAL STADIUM – HOME OF THE BATTLIN’ MINERS. (View colored sketch drawn by Miss Jenna Lescavage of the Minersville Area Class of 2007.) The sketch is not drawn to scale. The new entrance will be located on the “home side entrance of the stands” on Stadium Road off of North Fifth Street. If enough money is raised, a second replica entrance will be added to the visitors’ side entrance adjacent to the parking lot.
The money for this project will be raised by a number of activities including donations from businesses and organizations, private person donations, raffles and other special fund-raising events. The first step is to solicit the Minersville Area businesses and organizations for donations. The Minersville Alumni Association request if your business or organization would consider making a donation for this exciting new project. Donations of any amount will be graciously accepted, but donors who give a certain amount will be recognized on a special plaque. The East side (facing the inside of the stadium) of each column will display a “special donor” plaque that will display the names of persons, businesses and organizations that donate a certain amount of money for this project. Contributions of $50.00 to $249.00 will designate the donor as a “Copper Donor.” A contribution between $250.00 and $499.00 will designate the donor as a “Bronze Donor.” A contribution between $500.00 and $749.00 will designate the donor as a “Silver Donor.” A contribution between $750.00 and $999.00 will designate the donor as a “Gold Donor.” Contributions of $1000.00 or more will designate the donor as a “Platinum Donor.” The Minersville Area Alumni Association will be involved in a number of different fund raising events in order to lessen the burden and dependence on just businesses, organizations and private persons to raise the money needed to complete the project
The Minersville Area Alumni Association understands that with these difficult times, many businesses will be unable to contribute to this project. Furthermore, we also realize that many local businesses and organizations already contribute to other booster organizations and their fund-raising activities. We ask that you do what you can to help us with this project. We estimate that the cost for one new entrance may be $20,000. Once $10,000 is raised, estimates from contractors will be obtained and publicized. The money raised for this project will be kept in a separate account and will not be used for other alumni activities. If for some reason, project construction is not started, all contributions will be returned to the donors. Please make your checks payable to the Minersville Area Alumni Association and send to:
