Foster Township
The State of Pennsylvania had established in 1834 that some form of school system must be maintained in the school district. Public schools were operated in three locations, at Taylorsville, Glen Carbon, and Buck Run.
These early schools consisted usually of three rooms and were usually headed by one or two teachers. In 1922 the township schools joined with the Cass Township School District. This was the first school jointure of its' kind in Schuylkill County. This arrangement remained until the 1966-67 school year when both Cass and Foster became members of the Minersville Area School District. In addition to the Public Schools many children attended St. Kierans' Parochial School in Heckschersville. It was opened in October 1916 and provided academic and religious instruction for the Catholic members of the community. It is no longer in operation today. |
